Avocets are expanding their range rapidly in England, and are now fairly common at several sites in the northwest.
These Black-tailed Godwits were engaged in one of the most vicious fights I've seen in a long time, with the dominant bird at one stage standing on the other's back and pecking at its head and neck as it tried desparately to swim to safety.
Also at Marshside was a male Green-winged Teal, a rare visitor from North America.

Later in the month, the small lakes in the Delamere Forest, Cheshire, held high numbers of Black Darters.
